We spent last night in a very comfortable B&B, Aberllynfi B&B in Glasbury. Before we found it, we bought picnic makings for tea and thought it’d be great to find a B&B with a nice garden. It was 26 degrees during the day and was still very warm at night. Driving along, heading for somewhere, not sure where, we passed this B&B and thought it looked like a good option. They had 2 rooms and what a back garden. The photos say it all. We sat outside ‘til after 9 pm.
We headed towards northern Wales and took a detour through Rhayader to Elan Valley, a huge water supply managed by Wales Water, to drive around a series of dams. It was lucky we stopped at the first impressive view point because it was there, about 40 minutes from Aberllynfi, when someone, not G, G or J realised he didn’t have his credit card wallet with him. The contents of the suitcase was spread over the rocks and the day pack emptied, but it wasn’t there. There was no ‘phone reception so we couldn’t search for the B&B. Fortunately one of the rangers at the Visitors’ centre a couple of miles away was happy to look up the ‘phone number for us and rang for us. Luckily the wallet was in the B&B, so, with nothing else to do, we drove back to pick it up. We went back to the Visitors’ centre and had much needed double shot coffees, in the sun, looking over a beautiful valley. Feeling much better and life was OK again.
The drive around the dams was fantastic. Beautiful old bridges, impressive dam walls, a great little simple church and great water views.
We remembered that we needed money to pay for tonight’s accommodation, if it was a B&B, so we detoured into Dolgellau, after 5 pm, thinking we’d drive a bit further. We parked and went looking for an ATM, were sidetracked when we called into a great looking pub to see if they had rooms and ended up booking in. Didn’t need money after all, used the money card, but got money for tomorrow night anyway. We’re going to have a look around the village tomorrow morning, the whole village looks to be built from bluestone.
Llandudno on the north coast for tomorrow night.
