What a day! The weather was superb, shorts, T shirt & sandals for Rick. Same for Gary once he bought some thongs to replace the sandals that broke. Bought some sunblock, but one of us, not Gary, Gill nor Jan, used it a bit too sparingly and is a little sunburnt.
We have just got back from the Round Robin trip and are now sitting in the laundrette waiting for the washing. It’s almost 7pm. there is a fish and chip shop a few doors away, so it will be fish and chips and just possibly, a glass or 2 of wine. The steam train trip was great, only half an hour though. It took us from Paignton to Kingswear, at the mouth of the river Dart, opposite Dartmouth. The view approaching Kingswear/Dartmouth was really amazing, with a solid band of cloud from shore to shore.
We crossed the river by ferry and found a good place for coffee. The double shots of coffee made a good drinkable medium-strong drink. Quite a few houses, both in Kingswear and Dartmouth were painted in bright colours which suited the style and location of the houses. We had a look inside the church just back from the wharf and were impressed with a timber screen, in front of the alter, constructed in 1480. We explored some of the back streets of Datrmouth for a while before returning to the wharf to board the boat for the 1 1\2 hour trip upstream to Totnes.
The boat trip was calm and sunny and very relaxing, with a very amusing captain and commentary.
We spent a while in Totnes, visiting the Norman castle, another church and having a good general look around before catching the open top double decker bus back to Paignton, which takes us back to the start of this post.
Hi
ReplyDeleteWe love the pastel colours of some of the houses in Kingswear and Dartmouth. They must look great in the sun (which we currently don't have much off) but we don't think we will repaint our house to match them. Love Marilyn and John. PS The heater is finally out, just have to put the new one back.
